Ms Rosa the Teacher

Welcome !

As an educator, I believe that you discover what you know and what you can do by exploring possibility. Anything is possible when you know how to learn.

A student's purpose is to learn how to learn.

A teacher's purpose is to remove obstacles from the student's path while they are learning.

Together we will experiment with ideas, investigate knowledge, practice skills, and increase our mutual humanity. I am honored to do this work with you.

Wholeheartedly, Ms Rosa

Mindful Moment

The butterfly effect video invites you to listen while you are here & to focus on counting butterflies to relax.

How many butterflies do you see?

Art

Artmaking empowers our lives and communities. Intro to Art class studies artists, concepts, movements, techniques, and media. With command of digital tools, students express their individual identity while using visual communication to build community around social justice. The elements of art and principles of design provide a dynamic framework for critical thinking and creativity.

Did you see something beautiful today?

English

English Language Development class explores learning experiences that promote proficiency in English while honoring heritage language and fostering life-long biliteracy.

Honors English 9 class uses a writer's lens to explore key ideas and details through the study of craft and structure in classic and contemporary literature and informational texts.

Advisory

The year-level Advisory group is the smallest structured unit provided for student interaction. We gather to discuss the 9th grade experience. Our focus is the student's transition into high school.

In advisory class, we learn how to use tools and strategies including growth mindset, self-efficacy,  self management, and social awareness:

  • Growth Mindset is the belief that one's abilities can grow with effort

  • Self-Efficacy is the belief in one's own ability to succeed in achieving an outcome or reaching a goal

  • Self-Management is the ability to regulate emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations

  • Social Awareness is the ability to empathize, understand social and ethical norms, and access available resources.

We cover material designed to support students as they discover their voice and choose their standpoint while exploring the field of social justice.  Together we work on a year-long intercurricular project. Also, we read Wonder by R.J. Palacio as a  community.
