ABOUT

Welcome to my Fieldwork Portfolio. My name is Theresia Rosa Kleeman and I am an English Language Arts, Computer Science, Visual and Performing Arts educator, known to students as Ms. Rosa.
As a CalStateLA Single Subject Teaching Credential candidate, fieldwork is required to fulfill the English Language Arts instructional methods course to help me gain expertise teaching students in an urban public school environment.
This portfolio is a collection of artifacts documenting my fieldwork experience at Harris Newmark Continuation High School working in a culturally and linguistically diverse classroom where reading and writing workshop methods are utilized.
For the 2019-2020 academic year, I enjoyed employment by LAUSD as a Teacher Assistant at Newmark after transitioning out of the LAUSD Substitute Unit. This existing relationship with the school community has provided a depth of experience to my fieldwork project that has been most beneficial and uniquely enriching.
In the fall semester, I was able to build a new website for the school as well as create numerous visual assets. The website was previously under realized as a valued community resource. As demonstrated by the before and after images below, this work provided an opportunity to generate an inviting look and feel for the school to serve the active community as well as to recruit new students seeking an alternative option to gain credits which lead to graduation with a high school diploma.
This action to redesign the school website was timely in that when LAUSD shifted to remote learning in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the website was instrumental in communication and coordination for the school community. When learning went online, I participated in professional development and maintained the school website by adding teacher pages, posting LAUSD community resources, and making regular updates. We also added a social media presence on Instagram targeted to students and on Facebook targeted to parent/guardians. To learn more please look at the Harris Newmark Continuation High School website.
